An honest mechanic is one of the most treasured assets anyone can have in his portfolio. Gone are the days when working on your own car is a good way to save money. With modern automotive technology, service by a trained professional is essential, even for the lowly oil change. The dilemma is that the field is filled with crooks and gougers, and they can easily have you over a barrel. Brake repairs, for example. Talk to anyone who's gone to a big name change. They take your car apart, then quote you a huge price to repair your brakes. What do you do? They'll gouge you to put it back together, and will tell you that you can't even tow it elsewhere with the brakes disassembled, "according to state law." I had some initial skepticism, due to the "trust me, I'm a Christian" motif of their web site. However, thus far they have lived up to the honest image they project. No miracles, and it costs more than a few loaves and fishes, but most importantly, they do the job right and don't rip you off. I've had my car in to Folsom Car Care Center twice, and in both cases, I was treated with professionalism and fairness. My car was repaired promptly, and at a much lower cost than I anticipated. Yeah, it's expensive to have your car fixed. That's just a reality of life these days. You can thank regulations and liability insurance for that. But I got my car back from FCCC for a lot less than it would have cost me at a chain store, much less the dealer. When you leave your car with a mechanic, you are truly at their mercy. Very difficult to check on what they tell you, whether that is really the problem, or whether they just found a loose connection and billed you for a doohickey overhaul, or an unnecessary change of the blinker fluid and to rotate the air in your tires. It takes a while to feel truly confident, but on both of the jobs I took to them, it would have been very easy to overcharge, and they didn't, nor did they push to upsell additional unneeded services. They also offer free shuttle service if you ask for it, which is a huge bonus for me, since the alternative for me is to rent a car for the day.I'm satisfied all around. My only reason for not giving 5 stars is that I have been trying to avoid 1 and 5 star reviews in all but the rarest of situations. Few places are truly perfect or entirely rotten. But I honestly haven't found anything to beef about with FCCC.
